Block E

Tues Nov. 8.      Read “Harrison Bergeron”; practice summarizing and recording your thoughts on the two-column note-taking sheet (while you read); write a reader response based on your choice of 1-3 points from Part B on the Reader Response overview sheetGuided Reader Response Handout

Thurs. Nov. 10: Read “All the Troubles of the World” in your anthology.

Complete: Two-column note taking chart — focus on the “My Thinking” column.

Write Reader Response:  respond to some of the questions you raised in the “My Thinking” column, or some of the ideas or observations;  (Move away from just summarizing, and practice more on communicating your personal response and reactions to aspects of the story).

Hand in for feedback on Wed. Nov. 16.

Wed. Nov. 16: review the following stories for in-class on Friday:

The Metaphor, Harrison Bergeron, All the Troubles of the World

Possibility of Evil, Forgiveness in Families, House.

Story Chart due Thurs. Nov. 24th.

Fri. Nov. 18: In class essay day.

**Those who were absent today will need to make-up the essay.**

Thurs. Nov. 24: Today, the class finished working on the self-assessment form. The other task from today was to fill out a Peer Feedback form (on latest in-class). Everyone was able to read at least two other essays and provide feedback.

The big story chart was also due today. It will be part of “Homework” marks and for completion. Anything handed in on Monday will be late.

Nov. 30 Shorter blocks today due to Collaborative Day, so the class looked over the Short Story Planner and began some creative writing today.

I’ve told everyone to aim for 1-2 pages by Tuesday Dec. 6, even if the story isn’t complete.

Dec. 2:  Students did a feedback activity in groups of 2 or 3. Essays were then filed in the essay box; feedback logs filed in binders.

DUE on Tuesday:  the first two pages of your short story. Bring a hard copy (paper copy).

Block G

Nov 30: no class today because we all walked to Canada Place for the Career Fair. Anyone not attending the field trip went to the library for a study block with Ms. Kam.

Dec. 8: Today we began a writer’s workshop to review Comparison/Contrast structures. This will be continued in class throughout the week, so that everyone can see samples of topic sentences, paragraphs and essays.
